Unit 5 Solid Geometry
About This Unit
This unit builds upon students' prior knowledge of area, surface area, and volume of various solids from previous grades, culminating in the derivation and application of volume formulas. Students will develop spatial visualization skills by examining solids of rotation and cross-sections, and explore the impact of dilation on area and volume, including the introduction of square and cube roots. Finally, they will derive volume formulas for pyramids and cones using dissection arguments and Cavalieri's Principle, applying these concepts to solve real-world problems involving density and surface area to volume ratios.
